Day 50: 7/6/15 (Castle Rock. CO to Oklahoma City, OK)
646 miles
We didn’t hang around
for long this morning because we had such a long drive ahead of us. This leg was the furthest we’ve driven in one
shot. It took about 9 ½ hours to drive from
Castle Rock to Oklahoma City, but we also crossed a time zone so it made the
trip 10 ½ hours based on the clocks.
Before we left, John was giving us some basic directions since he
travels a lot for work and is pretty familiar with the roads. We noticed the GPS was directing us a
different way than what he suggested, but we figured it had to be faster since
we had it set for faster route. Well, we
had the GPS turned off so we could charge other electronics and Jillian ended
up missing the exit we were supposed to take.
Lucky for us, it ended up taking almost an hour off of our trip! We originally though it had added a few
minutes, but then we realized it shortened our trip which we were thankful for. As we were driving through Kansas, we hit
some rain – though no tornados – but fortunately the storm didn’t follow us to
Oklahoma
We arrived in
Oklahoma City around 6pm at Rico’s friend Kris’s apartment. We were extremely excited to be staying with
another friend with a cat; especially since little Bustopher Jones is just a
few months old. He was very playful
though a bit vindictive when it came to attacking. Once we were settled in and caught up, we
headed down the road to for some Mexican food for dinner. Afterwards, we just kicked back and relaxed
at Kris’s apartment. He and Rico were
acting as if they were still college roommates like they were freshman year.
Fact:
Bustopher Jones’
claws are lethal
Lesson:
If you want the
shortest route, carry an atlas with you because the GPS doesn’t always know
best
