Day 17: 6/3/15 (Missoula)
6 miles
Sometimes the best days
are the days you do nothing – okay so we did do more planning, but just to make
sure we knew what we were doing the next few weeks. Looking further ahead we found out our stop at
Havasu Falls wasn’t going to work out. A
visit to New Orleans via Houston is now being considered, but we’ll see how
things shake out. On the plus side, we
won’t have to hike 20 miles roundtrip through a barren canyon, though if we had
known ahead of time, we probably wouldn’t have packed the hiking packs.
After learning about that
wrinkle in our plans, we ran to grab some bread for the dinner we were
preparing. We ended up making bruschetta
and carbonara with roasted Brussel sprouts and had more of Ari’s key lime pie
for dessert. We were happy to see that the kids were fans – if not, then they’re
good liars! Later that night, we watched
the second half of the USA v South Korea women’s soccer match (0-0, how
uneventful). Overall it was just another relaxing day in Big Sky Country.
Fact:
No
matter how hard you try, you will never be able to recreate the masterpieces
you ate while in Italy
Lesson:
If
you want to camp out in Havasu Falls, you need to book at least 6 months in
advance (whoops)
