Day 54: 7/10/15 (Houston, TX)
32 miles
We didn’t have much
of a plan for Houston, but we knew we had to find the Hard Rock so we could
pick up some drumsticks. We continued
our search for apartments for the better part of the day. We were really hoping to find a place since
we’ll be home in 3 weeks. Jillian’s
sister wasn’t able to make one of the viewings due to a wedding so we asked her
mom to help out. She ended up offering to
view the other 2 apartments with Chelsea that are in Nashua and Merrimack. The day got away from us a bit so we decided
to stop searching and get out of the house.
We went downtown just to stop in at the Hard Rock and then went to a
Walmart to find something to cook for dinner.
Walmart is pretty well-established as a
grocery store back home so we figured it would be our one-stop shopping
destination for food and a few other things we needed to pick up. Come to find out, this Walmart only had about
5 aisles of groceries and didn’t even have some of the non-grocery items we needed. We asked Jillian’s cousin where the closet
grocery store was that had produce and she directed us to Krogers – duh! the
southern/midwest Walmart. When we walked
in we immediately regretted even trying to go to Walmart. We were greeted with a wine tasting which was
just what we needed after our Walmart experience. We walked around and picked up tons of fruit
and some broccoli, and of course, ice cream and beer. We found this beer called Wild Blue, which is
brewed in St. Louis, and decided to give it a try. Jillian ended up opening a Krogers card so we
could get some discounts even though we’ll probably never use it again.
When we got back to
the house, Caitlin was home from work so we just hung out and chatted all
night. We made some macaroni and cheese
and broccoli for dinner and had some chips and berries to snack on
beforehand. The beers ended up being
really good, and they were 8% so they were good and strong. We were planning
to leave early in the morning for New Orleans so Rico headed to bed, and
Jillian stayed up with her cousin. She
was going to the movies later that night so they hung out until she had to leave. Once Jillian had finished packing their
things up and cleaning up in the kitchen she headed to bed too.
Fact:
Wild Blue is the best blueberry beer - sorry Seadog
