Day 47: 7/3/15 (Castle Rock, CO)
0 miles
After a good night
sleep in a comfortable bed, we shared a blueberry muffin and a blueberry bagel
for breakfast. The plan was to go to Red
Rocks Amphitheater and take a tour of Coors Brewery, but by the time we were
going to leave the house, Rico’s Aunt Susan, who had gone out to breakfast with
a friend, called and said she was coming home with a surprise. As it turned out, the surprise was Rico’s
cousin Caitlin who had flown in from Memphis the night before to surprise her
mom for her birthday. Susan was worried
about leaving before we’d be up in the morning so she almost canceled on her
“friend”. It was a good thing we were
able to assure her that we would be able to find ourselves a breakfast just
fine – plus John was going to be home since he had the day off due to the
holiday so that helped. We spent the
afternoon on the porch catching up and when John got home, the surprise then
got passed along. To say the least, we nixed
our plans to go out and just ended up staying home and visiting with Rico’s
family.
While we were sitting
on the porch, Jillian noticed a dog come up the driveway who looked a bit like
their dog Holly, but it ended up being a neighbor’s dog. Caitlin, John, and Rico all went to track down
the dog and hopefully find its tags to call the owner. After finding out his name was Thunder,
Caitlin tried calling the owners to let them know their dog had escaped, but
there was no answer. Rico and Caitlin
ended up walking the dog back home, and they were grateful to have Thunder
returned.
The grill was fired
up once again for dinner. This time we
had some bratwurst with potato salad and coleslaw. John put some secret spices on the brats to
make them extra tasty. After dinner we
went downstairs with Susan and watched the movie This is Where I Leave You.
It ended up being your typical Jason Batemen movie, so it was pretty
good. Not soon after, we all went to bed.
