Day 46: 7/2/15 (Arches to Castle Rock, CO)
390 miles
We were woken up
today by a few drops of rain coming into our tent. We decided not to use the rain fly since we
were sleeping in the desert and the chance of rain is slim to none. When the rain started coming down we jumped
out of the tent quickly and packed everything up. As we finally got everything packed into the
car, we realized that the sprinkling rain had stopped and the clouds were
breaking up. We weren’t about to set the
tent back up just to get another hour of sleep, so we started on the road
towards Grand Junction, CO where Jillian’s 10,000 mile car appointment was
scheduled. We ended up arriving about 2
hours early and tried to get the car serviced early, but there was already a
line out the garage doors and they were fully booked for the day. We drove over to the mall area hoping the
Best Buy would be open, but they didn’t open until 10am. We decided that the best thing to kill time
would be to eat breakfast so we found an IHOP and pulled in. We each got some seasonal pancakes with eggs,
hash browns, and bacon/sausage. After
our meal we were still an hour early to the appointment, but we figured we
could use the wifi to get a few blogs posted.
Unfortunately, the dealerships wifi wasn’t working so we just sorted
through our photos getting them ready to make videos. The car wasn’t finished until 10:30am and
from there we went straight to Castle Rock where Rico’s aunt and uncle live.
We arrived in the
afternoon and quickly settled in so we could take a shower for the first time in
4 days. Taking showers was better than
eating a 6-scoop ice cream sundae. We
spent the rest of the afternoon chatting and getting to know / catching up with
Rico’s Aunt Susan and Uncle John while enjoying the Colorado weather on their
front porch. Around dinner time we moved
inside to cook and eat. We couldn’t be
more thankful for a home-cooked meal again.
After dinner we tried making some more videos and writing more
blogs. Keeping up with this blog has
become a serious chore for us on this trip.
You guys will be lucky if we can write 5 sentences by the end. After accomplishing very little with the blog, we headed to bed.
Fact:
Writing 46 blog posts
is tiring
Lesson:
If you feel a few
drops of rain in the desert, don’t assume that a whole storm will follow
