Day 38: 6/24/15 (Las Vegas)
40 miles
We were very un-Vegas
today and just hung around the house for the most part. We were trying to download photos, sort
through everything, and write some blog posts, but clearly we weren’t
successful in getting many uploaded. Jillian
also spent a little bit of time trying to finish up some research work she had
for her professor. She’s hoping to get
in a few more hours before the month is up so she can make some money while
we’re on the trip.
Around dinner time,
we figured we could bear the heat since the sun was down. We drove in and
parked right off the strip really close to where we stayed the last time we
came to Vegas. We planned on eating at
Gordon Ramsey’s Burgr Bar since we always watch his shows and so we wanted to
try his food. There was a bit of a wait,
but it was definitely worth it. We split
some truffle fries which were delicious and then Jillian got a burger with goat
cheese, roasted tomato, and arugula, and Rico got a burger with duck bacon,
sharp cheddar, and an egg. Everything
seemed very fresh and definitely up to Gordon’s standards.
After dinner we
walked back to the car to grab the Nikon camera and headed to the Bellagio
fountains. While waiting for a show,
Rico got his 2nd bloody nose of the trip (the first was in
Portland). Jillian didn't have any
napkins in her purse, but luckily, we grabbed Rico’s bag which had some of the
toilet paper Jillian’s mom sent us with (Holly to the rescue). Rico packed his nose and we stuck around for
about an hour watching 3 different shows.
We were considering going to the High Roller which is the ferris wheel
that was recently built and is now the largest in the world, but we ended up
deciding against it. We had purchased
tickets on Groupon, but they weren’t good for same-day use so we canceled the
order. We were also just a bit too tired
to wait in line so we headed home and went straight to bed (I know, we're so
much fun).
Fact:
Gordon Ramsey knows
the makings of a good burger
Lesson:
In dry climates,
expect Rico’s nose to bleed and be prepared for it instead of relying on luck
