Day 37: 6/23/15 (Las Vegas)
0 miles
First off, we want to
say happy birthday to our little kitty Khaleesi. She’s 2 years old today and we left her some
tuna with Rico’s parents to celebrate.
Second, WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS!
Just
kidding!
After such a long
day, we ended up sleeping in as much as we could. When we got out of bed, we introduced
ourselves to Lindsay and Derek (and their son Hudson). We had met Derek briefly 2 years ago during
our first trip to Vegas. He hooked us up
at the pool club that he worked at, so now we’re going to owe them doubly for
letting us stay for a few nights. We
were trying to catch up on the blog a bit while they went out to Lindsay’s
parents' to go swimming.
Later in the evening,
we went downtown for dinner. We started
at Hogs and Heifers which is this crazy biker bar by Fremont Street. The bartenders use bullhorns to yell at
people for being on their phones, not tipping, you name it. While we were there, the bartenders did some
line dancing on the bar, and this was some pretty legit Coyote Ugly type
stuff. Once they finished they’re
routine, they welcomed all the girls to dance on the bar with them, but there
was only one taker (and no it wasn’t Jillian – she hadn’t had enough drinks
yet), and thank god because the girl that did go up got her boobs yanked out
and got stickers on her nipples to dance around topless pretty much – welcome to
Vegas! Lindsay said she then realized
why Derek like the bar so much haha.
From there we kept
walking down Fremont and stopped at a little street bar for some beers and shots
(Lindsay’s doing). We all toasted with
our shots of Jameson and drank our beers on the way to Carson Kitchen. Amanda (Jillian’s cousin) told Lindsay that
we liked to eat and drink apparently (which is true) so she brought us to this
new place that she likes. All the dishes
are medium-sized so they're meant to be shared.
Lindsay ordered and we ended up with so much food! We had bison sliders, mac and cheese, a
chicken sandwich, bacon jam and baked brie spread, chicken thighs, crispy
chicken skins, and a beet salad – and it was all so good! Huge thank you to
Lindsay and Derek for taking us there!!!
On our way back to the car, we had to stop at Hogs and Heifers for one
more beer. This time when the bartenders
called the ladies up to dance, Jillian ran up and joined a few others on the
bar. [*Dance on a bar in Vegas (√)]
When we got home we
found out that dogs can get into sealed containers pretty well. Their lab had broken into our snack container
and ate a couple granola bars and half a bag of crackers. We were slightly impressed with how
successful they were with opening the granola bars, and the fact that they
didn’t also eat the wrappers. Derek went
to bed, but Lindsay opened a bottle of wine and we hung out for a few more
hours talking. We showed her some of our
photos from the past 5 weeks of our trip and our blogs/videos. Although it was probably a low-key night for
a Las Vegas native, we had a ton of fun visiting a part of downtown that we
hadn’t been to before. We let the time
get away from us and we were all crawling into bed around 2:30am.
Fact:
If you want Jillian
to dance on a bar in Vegas, she needs more than one beer
Lesson:
What happens in Vegas
doesn’t necessarily stay in Vegas – especially if you blog about it…
In honor of making it halfway through our trip (time-wise not distance)
