Day 35

Day 35: 6/21/15 (Marina Del Rey)
5 miles

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!

We decided to have a very low-key, relaxing day today.  The entire morning and afternoon was spent doing laundry and hanging by the pool.  We were finally nice and toasted so we headed indoors to escape the sun’s rays.  We tried doing some more planning and budgeting to meticulously figure out the 3 weeks before Rico’s sister’s wedding.  There are a lot of stops we want to make, but we obviously have to make it to the wedding on time so we’re trying to be strategic.

Around dinner time, we drove to a grocery store to pick up some fruits and veggies for the road.  After being on the road for 5 weeks, our diet has consisted mainly of granola bars, cheerios, and peanut butter and fluff sandwiches.  We have definitely missed real food so we grabbed some apples, peaches, nectarines, and celery.  We also got some ice cream and a big bottle of champagne for when we got back.  For dinner we went to In-n-Out Burger, a California landmark, for burgers and fries.  We were instructed from Kristen that we needed to order “animal style” which is a part of some secret menu.  The burgers were actually pretty good given fast food standards.  We headed back to the apartment to pop open the champagne and to start digging into our ice cream.  Kristen informed us that we were likely to hit a lot of traffic on the way to San Diego and on the way to Las Vegas so we tried to do a bit of research to find the best times to leave.  We ended up moving our departure from 6:30am to 5:30am so we’d miss commuter traffic.  With that, Rico headed to bed because he knew he’d be driving in the morning (Jillian is not a morning person).  Jillian stayed up a bit later to sort through and organize the expenses because we’ve been trying to keep track of food, activities, gas, etc separately.

Fact:
Do as the locals do and you'll eat well and have fun

Lesson:
Sun block, sun block, sun block (I guess we didn't learn)

Eat Well; Travel Often
